Finding Jesus on the Romans Road


			FINDING JESUS ON THE ROMANS ROAD

God created man with the desire that He have someone that He could pour out His love on, and fellowship with. It has always been God's intent that mankind be His children, sharing in the joy of His blessings. Unfortunately, man has turned away from God, deciding that our way is better than His way, doing this is called sin. However, God wasn't willing to just leave things that way, He provided a means, through the death, and resurrection of His son Jesus, for His other children to return to Him. We can find the path to God through some scriptures in the book of Romans. This is called the Romans Road.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;...
- Romans 3:23
Because we've sinned, we've taken ourself out of relationship with God. He is a holy God, and we cannot come into His presence with sin in us. Oterwise:
For the wages of sin is death;...
- Romans 6:23a
Theges of sin are death not because God desires to kill us all, but because of His holiness and purity. His holiness and glory are so great, that to enter into his presence without being purified would cause the sin within us to kill us.
...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Romans 6:23b
Because God has such great love for us, He Himself paid the price for our sin. Think of this, before the world was formed, God realized that He would personally suffer the most horrible torture that mankind has ever devised, in order to pay the price for our sin. But, He did it anyway!
But God commandeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 5:8
God didn't wait for us to be "good people" before Jesus went to the cross. He did it for us whether we would accept it, or not. We don't have to be purified before we come to Him, we have to come to Him so we can be purified.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
- Romans 10:13
It isn't what we do that makes us saved. We can go to church every day, give lots of money to ministries, and give up our home for the poor. But, none of that will make us saved. The only thing that can save us is the blood of Jesus. You know what? It's free! We don't have to pay for it, because Jesus already did. All we have to do is accept what He's done for us.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.
- Romans 10:9
Two things working together; first we believe, then we confess. It isn't really much of a belief if we don't say it, and it isn't much of a confession if we don't believe it. Put these two things together, and see what it means to be part of God's family.
If you've believed in your heart, pray this prayer:
Heavenly Father. I know that I'm a sinner. I know that I've moved away from you, and that I must come back to you. Thank you that You've paid the price through the blood of Jesus for me. I believe that Jesus has died so that I don't have to die for my own sins. I also know that he has been raised from the dead, so that I can live in the new life that He has bought for me. Lord, take away my sin, and give me a new heart. I thank you in Jesus' name. Amen.
