"ON THE ALTAR"

1. Abraham was called the father of faith.
  a) Romans 4:16

b) Also Romans 4:11 & 12

c) With some of the things that he did, it is possible to wonder about his faith.

    i) Specifically Ishmael - he lost track of his faith
2. Being a man of faith
  a) The just shall live by faith
    i) Rom 1:17

ii) Gal 3:11

iii) Heb 10:38

  b) Heb 11:6 - “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
3. Gen 22:1-14 - Abraham offering Isaac on the altar.
  a) vs 1-2 - God proved Abraham, not tested him
    i) Jms:1:13 - Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
  b) Isaac was important to Abraham.
    i) Gen 15:2 - And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

ii) God doesn’t ask us to give what is unimportant, but what is important. If it isn’t important to us, it isn’t a sacrifice to give it.

      a) Mk 12:42-44: And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
        (1) The widow’s offering was important to Jesus because it was all she had, not from her excess.
      b) Ex 20:3: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
        (1) If we can’t give it to God, it’s an idol.
      c) Matt 10:37 - He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
  c) vs 3 - Abraham was quick to obey
    i) rose early - didn’t put it off till later
