1:18 -Salvation has always existed
-
7:14-16 -Messiah's birth to a virgin
-
7:20 - "shaving" - A sign of great disgrace - vs 18 says "in that day" meaning
it applies to the time period of the messiah in vs 14-16. In a sense, this
happened. When the Jews didn't accept their Messiah, they were disgraced.
-
9:1-7 - Isaiah's 3rd Messianic prophecy:
-
vs 2 - "spiritual darkness & light" - the Messiah bringing spiritual
light
-
vs 3 - "enlarged nation" - salvation to the gentiles
-
vs 4 - "shattered yoke" - Jews saw this as a political yoke, but was spiritual
-
6 - "a child is born" - the Jews misunderstood who the Messiah would be and
expected a political messiah - Acts 1:6
-
11:1 -A shoot from the stump of Jesse - even though David's kingdom had been
shattered, God would restore.
-
11:2 - "Christ" or "Messiah" means "anointed one" - here we see that anointing
described
-
Spirit of the Lord
-
Spirit of wisdom & understanding
-
Spirit of council & might
-
Spirit of the knowledge of the fear of the Lord
-
11:3-4 - Messiah as judge - not judging by an earthly standard, but a heavenly
one
-
11:6-8 - "Wolf lie down with the lamb," etc. - Many see this as the millennial
period and it can be. However, we can also see this as different types of
people coming together in Christ.
-
11:12 - "Banner" - in times of war the soldiers would rally to the banner
- notice the gathering of the exiles back to Himself.
-
Jesus has literally become the banner over us to whom we gather
-
32:1 - "Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, And princes will rule
with justice" - Messianic prophecy
-
Ch 40 - The whole chapter is Messianic prophecy - specifically "sin paid
for" can only be attributed to the Messiah
-
40:1-2 - The gospel message - sin paid for - preached in Acts and afterwards
-
40:3-5 - John the Baptist "the voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare
the way of the Lord" - Mt 3:3; Mk 1:2; Lk 3:4-6; Jn 1:23
-
42:1-4 -God the Father declaring His pleasure and anointing over the Messiah
- His work of justice - vs 3-4
-
42:6-7 - Messiah's anointing -
-
To make covenant
-
Light to gentiles
-
Open blind eyes - literally (healing) & figuratively (spiritual blindness)
-
Free captives in (spiritual) darkness
-
50:5-8 - The Messiah's suffering before being crucified - beating & pulling
out beard
-
52:13-15 - Description of the Messiah
-
13 - Wisdom - as a result, exaltation
-
14 - Disfigured - Jesus on cross
-
15 - "he will sprinkle many nations" - in O.T. the tabernacle was dedicated
& cleansed by sprinkling with blood - We, as individuals, and also our
nations are cleansed by the figurative sprinkling of Jesus' blood on us
-
15 - "kings shut mouth… understand" - there is an awakening of the spirit
in a man when he accepts Jesus. It brings understanding that shuts up man's
wisdom
-
Ch 53 - Messiah
-
1 - John & Paul both quoted this verse
-
2 - Most think Jesus was a perfect physical specimen, yet here is says he
wasn't
-
3 - It seems amazing in hindsight that the Jews would reject their Messiah.
But, He didn't come as they expected, even though He fulfilled many prophecies.
Even His own disciples didn't see this until He explained it to them - Lk
24:27 - I wonder how many of us will fail to recognize Him at His second
coming
-
4-5 - Often quoted promise of healing
-
6 - Often quoted promise that the Messiah would pay our debt of sin
-
7 - The Jews think this speaks of them, but it clearly speaks of Jesus
-
10 - The Messiah as our guilt offering
-
61:1-3 - On the day that Jesus read the scroll of Isaiah at the beginning
of His ministry Jesus read this and said it spoke of Himself - Lk 4:18
-
65:17 - New heavens & new earth - Rev 21:1
