HOW CELEBRATED

Not used today. Since the advent of modern Astronomy.

Joyous feast to remember Esther’s victory.

Slaying of the Passover Lamb. Passover Dinner.

Seven days following Passover. No leavened bread eaten.

Bringing the first fruits (barley) to wave before the Lord.

50 days of counting for Shavuoth. A time of denying ones self.

Celebrating the harvest. This is at the end of all of the harvests being in.

Blowing of Shofar. Throwing rocks - to represent our sins into the ocean.

Fasting. Giving to the poor. High priest going into the Holy of Holies.

Stay in temporary dwellings for 7 days. Booths are decorated with fruit, etc.

Parade led by the Torah.

Lighting of the Hanukkah menorah for eight nights.

OLD TESTAMENT

Used to establish the beginning of the religious calendar. - Creation

Book of Esther. Salvation of the race of the Jews.

When the Angel of Death passed over the people of Israel. 10th plague in Exodus.

Travel in the wilderness. God providing manna (“what is it”) to eat for 40 years.

Entering the promised land. Giving first to God.

Traveling in the wilderness for 40 years.

Giving of the law to Moses on Mt. Sinai.

Entering the chosen land.

Going through the red sea.

40 years spent in the wilderness. God providing for them during that time.

Giving of the law, setting aside the Jewish people as God’s chosen people.

Book of Macabees. Salvation of the Jewish religion.

NEW TESTAMENT

Birth of Jesus. All celebration is around His work on the earth.

Jesus is the kinsman-redeemer.

Jesus is the true Passover Lamb. Everything in Passover points toward Him.

Jesus was without leaven (sin). We are to live our lives without sin.

Jesus is the first fruit, as the “firstborn of many”

Jesus’ time in the wilderness after being baptized by John.

The coming of the Holy Spirit.

the Rapture.

Washing away of our sins by the blood of Jesus. We are given a new garment - white/spotless

The seven years of the church being in heaven during the tribulation. The “hoopah”

The marriage supper of the lamb.

New heaven and new earth.
