What will you be remembered by?

Who am I? Why am I here? What’s the whole point of life anyway? You’ve probably heard a lot of questions like these, maybe you’ve asked them yourself. They’re good questions. Life is always sending mixed signals. Life is always full of questions that you don’t have the answers to. But is life really a mystery? Are you relying on chance or does God have a plan?

Lets go way back before you were born, before God created anything.

“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God and God in him.” (1 john 4:16 NKJ)

The Hebrew word that’s used for love in this verse is Haceed, Haceed means to have an overwhelming desire to give to the other person, for their benefit, no matter what it costs you. Wow, pretty intense huh? That’s what God is. His very essence. So here God is in the middle of nowhere (remember nothing was created yet) and this love he has is just eating him up. He needed someone to pour out his love on, but there wasn’t anyone. So he calls a board meeting, Him, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus. He says” so this is my plan, we need someone to love, so lets create a being, someone in our own image, and lets give them the ability to return love”.” But God” says the Holy Spirit. “If we give them a free will you know that they will rebel”. Yes I know says God, we will need a sacrifice. Jesus slowly stands up and says” I’ll go, let me be the sacrifice”.

Talk about love. God knew that we would turn on him, he knew He would have to die for us, but He did it anyway. That’s the kind of love he has for us, How much do we really love him? Knowing that God sacrificed everything just to let us live, that He died the most torturous death possible just to pay for our mistakes, how can we not want to give him every thing we’ve got.

And yet we find ourselves in situations when we are embarrassed to even acknowledge him. You know why? We humans have a problem; we all have egos. We are always concerned about our image. The world (media, people around us) is constantly bombarding us with messages that influence us. They tell us image is everything, “You can’t be cool unless you do like we say.” “No one will like you if you don’t wear the right clothes.” “If your body isn’t perfect than you’re ugly.” When you really think about it, it’s pretty dumb to let someone you’ve never met choose how you’re going to live. But what’s even weirder is that we do, every day. Because of our image. Think about the way you dress, talk, act, the things you like. What do you want people to think when they see you? Are you letting God shine through or is He buried deep inside? Think of what He has done for you, what will happen to your friends if you don’t share Jesus with them. One day we are all going to be waiting in the great hall of judgment and God is going to separate his children from the others. When you see a friend on his way to hell and he says why? Why didn’t you tell me there was another way? And all you can say is “I was worried about what you would think”. Pretty lame excuse if you ask me. No I’m not trying to scare you, but it’s going to happen someday whether you like it or not.

In ten years nobody is going to remember you for your clothes or your stuff; they are going to remember you for the kind of person you were. The way you want to be seen shows what’s important to you. So what’s gonna be more important, your image, or letting God’s image shine through you? There is a purpose in life, God has it all worked out. Let Him show you how to live out your potential.
